I am now back from my week-long hiatus. I’ve just posted some new writing jobs and will continue to post them each day, excluding weekends and holidays.
Also, please let me know if I’ve put up a bad ad. Bad ads will be ads with responses asking for free work, non-location independent ads, and ads that ask for incredibly low rates. I don’t always have time to read through the entire ad but I do my very best.
My goal is to build a positive place for writers to seek jobs. I don’t know of any other job site that does as much screening as I do. I truly believe that the industry needs more quality jobs.
Also, I am going to take this opportunity to explain how you can stay out of job scams and/or avoid being taken advantage of. Creative professionals are a prime target for scum bags of all sorts. Here are some ways to keep yourself safe from exploitation:
- Never work for less than you are worth. If you have a college degree or even a GED, don’t write articles for $1. The more people who do this, the harder it is for us to make a living. You can find higher paying writing gigs, it just takes a little digging. If you’re having a hard time finding gigs, ask me for help and I will do my best to point you in the right direction.
- Never do free work for a company that uses the guise of “internship”. Remember, an internship is not legal if it benefits the company in any way. You can report non-complying businesses to the BBB or law-enforcement.
- Trust your gut. If you don’t feel right about a company, don’t work for them.
- If you must write for content mills such as Demand Studios or eHow, use an alias. This will keep your reputation clean should you ever come across someone who is willing to pay you a better rate for your work.
- Never be afraid to ask a more experienced writer for help. If you know someone who has been writing for 20+ years, then ask them for advice if you need it. Most seasoned writers are happy to help out new writers who are serious about making a living at this trade.
I hope that the above tips were helpful. Stay safe and Happy upcoming Holidays!
